Los Angeles -- The National Women’s Political Caucus LA Westside commends West Hollywood Councilmember Lindsey Horvath for her leadership regarding recent allegations involving Mayor John Duran and calling for an investigation into and accountability for these allegations to ensure a safe and inclusive West Hollywood for all its residents.
The #MeToo movement has highlighted the inadequate and improper accountability mechanisms existing in governance to support women and men in vulnerable positions who are experiencing discrimination, harassment, and abuses of power, particularly in their work environments. Not only are women disproportionately impacted by these issues, but women leaders bear the brunt of criticism and skepticism for drawing attention to inequities and standing up to protect the people whom they are elected to serve.
As an organization wholly committed to electing and appointing more women leaders at every level, NWPC LA Westside recognizes the critical role that women’s representation plays in elevating the consciousness regarding these kinds of issues. As such, we further commend Councilwoman Lauren Meister and other women’s advocates in joining Councilwoman Horvath in demonstrating enormous leadership on this issue and we stand united in support of them as the City of West Hollywood determines next steps to address these allegations.
National Women’s Political Caucus LA Westside is a multi-partisan women's political organization that recruits, trains, and supports pro-choice women candidates and elected officials at all levels of government.
