NWPC-LA Westside Hosts Women in Leadership Breakfast at Factors Famous Deli

On Wednesday, March 20, 2019, The National Women Political Caucus- (NWPC) LA Westside Chapter hosted an early morning brunch at Factors Famous Deli, a popular family-owned deli in West Hollywood. Community leaders, elected officials, and chapter members gathered together on the garden patio to not only celebrate the first day of spring, but to discuss the West Hollywood City Council March elections.

Dr. Jackie Filla, an Associate Professor of Political Science at Mount St. Mary’s University, was the guest speaker and started the conversation with a brief overview of the “year of the woman”, a popular term referring to the 1992 election of the number of female senators in United States. Jackie compared the year of 1992 to 2018 stating that both years had the highest female turn out than previous elections.

Other special guests included the newly re-elected West Hollywood City Councilwomen, Lindsey Horvath and Lauren Meister, who, for the first time in public, shared their victories in the March 5 election.

What I would say about what we did as the four women running, we were never disparaging of anyone running. We ran very positive campaigns and continued to support each other,” stated councilwoman Lindsey Horvath. The way women ran in this race was different than the way dynamics have been in past city council elections.”

Additional guest speakers at the breakfast event included Sepi Shyne, NWPC endorsed candidate in the West Hollywood City Council election, and Heather Repenning, who is currently running for LAUSD School Board in the June special election.

NWPC LA Westside will host another Women in Leadership breakfast later this year. Stay tuned for updates!
